ALITHSA Volunteer Recognition Program
Kym Griffiths - U6 Coach
ALITHSA would like to recognize Coach Kym Griffiths for his "above and beyond" volunteer work.
One of the emails we receive nominating Kym said: "I would like to take a minute and let you know how wonderful we think Kym Griffiths is! He coaches our 6 year old daughter and his patients and enthusiasm for the game and children alike is incredible!! Every parent on our team can't say enough about him. My daughter simply loves him and has been sad for days because it is her last game. We originally came to the ALITHSA even though we were from Crystal Lake because Anna could choose only to play in the Spring. Now all she can talk about is coming back next year to coach Kym's team."
We took a few minutes of Kym's time to get to know him better.
ALITHSA:
How did you get involved in soccer and how did you pick the game up so fast?
Kym:
I've been involved in soccer all my life, both recreationally and playing for my school teams in England and in Asia.
ALITHSA:
What are the three top things for you as a coach?
Kym:
Watching the kids score their first goal, spending time with my son, and watching them improve as the season progresses.
ALITHSA:
What in your view are the top three things for the players?
Kym:
The top 3 things for the players are that they like to play as much as they can - especially in goal, scoring goals and "who has the treats"
ALITHSA:
What can we teach our kids about playing soccer and who is your >favorite soccer player (or other sport) - role model?
Kym:
We can teach our kids good sportsmanship, playing as a team and passing the ball. My favorite soccer player was Billy Bremner of Leeds United, England in 1970's.
ALITHSA:
Please tell us about your most special soccer memory or event.
Kym:
My most special soccer memory or event was taking my family to see Manchester United, and Real Madrid play at Soldier Field.
ALITHSA:
How in your mind can we make soccer in ALITHSA as creative and fun as possible?
Kym:
We can make ALITHSA creative and fun by teaching the kids new drills, and having fun with them on the field before and during the games.
ALITHSA:
Anything special you would like to share with all of us in ALITHSA about being a volunteer?
Kym:
I was fortunate to have a great assistant coach, Derek Rapaduski, and a great group of supportive parents who were at every game cheering ALL the kids on.
ALITHSA:
Thank you Kym!
If you know of any ALITHSA coach, asst. coach, team mom, referee or coordinator that goes above and beyond, please let us know about it. We want to regularly recognize those that stand out from the crowd.
Please send your nominations and the reason for the nomination to mvp@alithsa.org.
